My NRC Experience: MOWHP Team

Tara Saglimbeni, Account Executive

Hi! My name is Tara Saglimbeni and I am the account executive of Meals On Wheels of Hyde Park! I am a Junior and a sports communications and public relations major.

I heard about North Road Communications the second semester of my freshman year from my RA. She said anyone who was a communications major should apply, and I decided it didn’t hurt to just apply. Once accepted into the firm, I was so happy that I decided to apply because of the amazing experience it has been.

Since joining officially fall of my sophomore year, I have only worked with Meals On Wheels of Hyde Park. Now, as a second semester Junior, I can say that working with them has opened my eyes to greater issues that surround our community. Essentially, it has helped me get out of the “college bubble,” as well as gain valuable, real-life PR experience.

Through Meals on Wheels and working with our client, Jack Fenton, I have had the opportunity to do some awesome things. Jack is such a great guy and easy to work with because he is always up for any new ideas from our team. My team and I have helped grow Meals On Wheels Hyde Park’s social media accounts, primarily Instagram and Facebook, by posting content from events they have hosted or images and stories from Meals on Wheels America. We have also set up a volunteering system in the past where students from Marist could come help deliver meals with MOW. This experience, in particular, had an impact on me. It made me appreciate what I have and want to do anything I could to help others in need, as well as help those organizations, like MOW, that help those in need.

Another amazing experience I had was being able to go on the local radio with our client Jack to discuss what North Road is and what we do, what I do for MOW and what MOW does for the community. Being able to go to an actual radio studio and be on air was an experience I will never forget, especially because I was so nervous about it.

MOW has some exciting things happening this semester. We are continuing our newsletters started last semester and keeping up with weekly posts during March for MOW big event: March for Meals. This event spreads awareness about what MOW does for the entire month and honors those who have a big impact on the organization.

Without North Road, I would have never known about all the great things MOW does, especially in our own backyard. I also would have never gotten these few years of real-life PR experience, which is so important for my future career. I can’t wait to see what other amazing experiences and opportunities will come in my future with North Road.
