My NRC Experience: Beacon Arts

Carly Telgheder, Account Executive

Hi! My name is Carly Telgheder and I am the account executive for Beacon Arts/Free Loop!  I am a junior communications major with concentrations in both public relations and sports communications.

This is my second semester as both a member of North Road Communications and the AE for the Beacon Free Loop account.  I heard about NRC from my friend who is an account representative last spring semester.  When I heard about this club we were in peak quarantine and I thought that this would be a great opportunity to not only gain public relations experience but also lift my spirits.  I had an internship at the Hudson Valley Renegades in 2019, but I wanted a taste of what PR agency life was like, and NRC was the perfect opportunity.  Being accepted made me even more excited to get back to campus to get started.

The Beacon Free Loop is the free bus service that runs through the adorable, artsy city of Beacon, New York, which is about 30 minutes south of campus.  What is so cool about Beacon is the artistic and creative energy that flows through the streets, and many artists’ work is featured on the bus shelters.  Throughout the city are various art galleries and shops and local, unique creations.  There is sure to be something for everyone!  I grew up only 40 minutes from Beacon and frequently take the train from the Beacon station into the city, so it has been such a fun experience to work on a client that is not only local to Marist but also my hometown.

The primary project that my team and I work on for Beacon Free Loop is social media.  We provide updates on the bus and promote the bus and city of Beacon. We love to highlight businesses that are members of Beacon Arts with our #WhatToDoWednesday campaign.  It is a great way to showcase awesome local spots!

Overall my experience at NRC has been nothing short of amazing.  I get to have real client experience and job-like responsibilities for a local member of the Hudson Valley.  Especially now with internships and jobs harder to come by due to COVID-19 I am grateful for the opportunities that I have been given through North Road.  It is an internship quality experience all while being an on-campus club.  I know that without North Road I would not have the PR experience that I have now.

I can’t wait to see where else North Road leads me!
