My NRC Experience: Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie

Lauren Matzer, Account Executive

Hi! My name is Lauren Matzer and I am the account executive for Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie. I am a senior communication major with a double concentration in public relations and advertising. I am also minoring in graphic design!

This is my second semester as a member of North Road Communications and as the AE for Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie. I heard about NRC through friends within my major. When I applied in the spring of 2020, I felt that it would be a great opportunity to gain great hands-on experience with local clients and work alongside like-minded individuals.

Being an AE for Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie has been such a rewarding experience thus far. It has been so great to work with a client who is so dedicated to helping community members each week. This year is especially exciting for Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie as they are celebrating their 50th anniversary! We have been working on various projects to help celebrate all that they have done over the past 5 decades.

This past December Meals on Wheels received some great on-air coverage thanks to Q92.1 FM. The treasurer at Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie, Nancy Rogers, appeared on Annie in the Morning to talk about their COVID protocols and their upcoming 50th anniversary. This opportunity has helped them get their name out there to potential donors, volunteers, and community members that may need meals provided to them.

Being a part of NRC and working with local clients in the Hudson Valley has been nothing short of a great experience. I feel very privileged to work with a non-profit like Meals on Wheels, especially in this past year. With everything that has happened with COVID-19, Meals on Wheels has continued to provide hot meals to those who can’t prepare their own. I am excited to continue the work my team and I have been doing over the course of the semester and I can’t wait to watch Meals on Wheels continue to grow and give back.
