My NRC Experience: Dutchess BOCES
Sophia Jordan, Account Executive
My name is Sophia Jordan, and I am honored to be serving as the current account executive for Dutchess BOCES. This county-wide organization works with schools across the county to provide educational services to students. I am a senior political science major, minoring in Public Relations, Global Studies, and Interactive Media.
My journey at NRC started in the fall of 2021 as an account executive for Steppin’ Out Radio, which allowed me to further my leadership experience with one of the firm’s established clients. We worked on media outreach and event planning, which gave my team and I insight into the start-end process in PR campaigns that we read about in class. The following semester, I had the privilege of working with a new client to NRC, Dutchess BOCES, and assisted with laying out directions for our team to follow throughout the semester. One of the projects we have been working on is enhancing admissions materials for a local school. Not only has this helped me with developing content, but it has also bettered my interpersonal skills. The firm truly works to give members real life experiences, with both clients and guest speakers, as well as give us guidance on how to navigate the industry. Additionally, the insight lectures given by guests that are brought in has been invaluable throughout my job search and figuring out where in PR I would like to be.
Aside from the professional experience that North Road has given me, I am beyond grateful for the exposure it has given me within the community. While at Marist, students are often encouraged to explore the mid-Hudson area, but being able to work hands on with such great causes within the community is something else entirely.
