Q: How is work split up/ assigned to me?
A: You are placed on a team with an Account Executive who leads your group. The Account Executive serves as the primary point of contact for your client and facilitates meetings between the client and your team. Individual teams typically meet outside the full-firm meeting once a week either in person, on Zoom, or another video platform where you will discuss ongoing projects and receive assignments from your Account Executive.
Q: What does a typical full-firm meeting look like?
A: Full-firm meetings are held every week on Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 PM and are typically located in Fusco Music Hall or the Nelly Goletti Theater. These meetings serve as a time for teams to come together to discuss updates, share progress, and receive guidance from the firm directors. These meetings may also include guest speakers or professional development opportunities and serve as a great opportunity to collaborate with both your teammates and other firm members as well as ask questions.
Q: Are the expectations of North Road similar to any other on campus club?
A: While North Road Communications is a student-run organization, it operates more similarly to a professional firm rather than a typical club. Members are expected to contribute actively to their client projects, meet deadlines, and attend meetings regularly.
Q: Is the weekly workload manageable for someone who takes 5 courses and also has a part-time job?
A: Yes! Many members balance coursework, part-time jobs, and other commitments while participating in North Road Communications. Workload varies by team and client needs, but Account Executives work with members to ensure assignments are manageable. However, we do ask that members are available for our weekly firm meetings every Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 PM, as these meetings are essential for collaboration and updates.
Q: What do I do if I have an issue with a client?
A: If you encountered any difficulties with a client whether it be communication challenges, unclear expectations, or project concerns, speak to your Account Executive first. If further assistance is needed, reach out to one of the firm directors as they are here to provide guidance and have strong relationships with each of the clients, so they are able to easily provide guidance and intervene if necessary.
Q: Is there anywhere to go or someone to help me create a press release?
A: The Media Relations team is a valuable resource for members who need assistance with drafting and editing press releases. Each semester, a request form is made available for those seeking support, members can also reach out directly via the team’s dedicated email (nrc.mediarelations@gmail.com). Whether you need guidance on formatting, messaging, or refining your content, the Media Relations team is here to help ensure your press release is clear, professional, and effective.
Q: What is the difference between internal and external teams?
A: Internal teams focus on the operations of North Road Communications itself, such as recruitment, branding, and firm-wide initiatives. They include our Social Media, Talent Acquisition, Media Relations, and Videography Teams. External teams work directly with clients, handling marketing strategies, campaign development, social media management, and PR efforts for a specific non-profit organization.
Q: How does working with nonprofit clients differ from working with other business types?
A: Working with nonprofits often means focusing on mission-driven storytelling, community engagement, and maximizing impact with limited resources. Nonprofits typically seek to raise awareness, attract donors, and build meaningful relationships with their audience which requires a strategic and creative approach.
Q: don’t have a background in communications. Can I still contribute to an internal/external team? How can I learn more about integrated communications and marketing?
A: Absolutely! North Road Communications welcomes students from all majors and backgrounds. Your skills can contribute to both internal and external projects. You can learn more about integrated communication and marketing through hands-on experience, firm meetings, workshops, and guidance from directors, and Account Executives.
