My NRC Experience: Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee (HPVEC)

TAYLOR HANNIBAL, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

Hi! My name is Taylor Hannibal and I am the Account Executive for the Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee (HPVEC for short). I am currently a Senior majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Fashion Merchandising.

I originally came to Marist as a Fashion Merchandising major with a concentration in Promotion. Through that, I was able to take a wide variety of communications courses and realized that I truly just loved COM and that is what I wanted to do with my life. So, I changed my major and immediately started searching for ways to get involved with the Communications department. I became a member of PRSSA, joined the Center for Social Media, and then applied to North Road. Joining these experiences completely made my college experience do a 360. I was now meeting amazing people and doing things I LOVE to do, and at the same time building unbelievable experience for my resume!

HPVEC helps keep Hyde Park clean and looking beautiful, giving the community a sense of pride and helping people who live there meet their neighbors. Through HPVEC we help create their newsletters and social media posts, send out email blasts and are now working on reaching out to the media for Hyde Park Appreciation Day that will take place April 17th. These are amazing skills I am able to put in my portfolio.

Through working for HPVEC at North Road, I have gained amazing leadership skills and the values of working as a team with my team members Emma Regina and Lindsay Melville. I have met the amazing women who run the HPVEC and do our best to help them through anything they need. I am learning how to navigate client relations, and how to keep your client happy. These are skills I never was able to gain through any of my experiences outside of Marist, and many communications students not at Marist are unable to get before graduating.

Overall, North Road has been the golden ticket that made my college experience more meaningful, and I cannot wait to see the opportunities this experience will bring me after I graduate!
