My NRC Experience: MOW Poughkeepsie
AMY OZOLS, ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE
I’m Amy Ozols, and this semester is my 3rd in North Road Communications. I’m currently getting ready to graduate in December of 2023 while finishing up my degree, gaining as much relevant experience, and applying to jobs! I’m majoring in Communications with a double concentration in Public Relations and Advertising with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. What initially attracted me to North Road Communications was the incredibly intelligent and hard-working individuals that I met in my first few communications classes here at Marist after transferring. A handful of these students spoke to me about their positive experiences in the firm and really inspired me to apply. Once NRC was on my radar, I soon realized this would be a good fit and a unique experience for me. I understood the value of gaining real-world PR experience on a client team while collaborating with like-minded individuals.
I have had a wonderful experience in the firm and am almost always learning something new. I started in NRC working on an internal team doing publicity and then recently moved to a client-based team called Meals on Wheels Poughkeepsie. Being in the firm for the past year and a half has provided me with many opportunities such as working closely with different teams, learning from my peers, communicating with a client, networking opportunities, exclusive workshops on resume and interview tips, access to exclusive internship opportunities, learning how to market myself in the workforce, presenting my work at the end of each semester to administrators and so much more.
NRC is full of career-driven and well-accomplished students. We all have a common goal to learn as much as possible and gain precious experience for our future. My first time around in the application process I, unfortunately, did not make the cut for the firm- but I didn't stop there. After a number of other co-curricular experiences and my first internship, I was accepted in!
That nudge was a good thing. The time spent in this firm was an investment in my future and I encourage others to push themselves to apply. I am now going to leave Marist in December having completed 5 internships outside of NRC and having worked in 4 co-curricular clubs and relevant career opportunities on campus. NRC pushes us all to be the best versions of ourselves and to prepare us for our future careers.
