The Road After North Road: Featuring Liz Orlandi
For Marist College students looking to gain real-world experience and acquire skills that will set them apart in the job market, North Road Communications provides a unique hands-on experience working with non-profit clients in the Hudson Valley. As the fourth largest student-run IMC firm in the US, North Road offers unique opportunities to work with real clients to produce pro-bono work. The firm also provides students with a substantial advantage in the job market. We had the privilege of sitting down with Liz Orlandi, an accomplished Account Associate at Haddad Brands in NYC, to hear about her journey through North Road and how it prepared her for her current role.
Q&A with Liz Orlandi:
What positions did you hold in North Road?
I worked as an Account Representative.
Why did you choose to be a part of North Road?
To get more experience in public relations! North Road is one of the best clubs you can join on campus as a communications student to get real work experience and learn skills you will take to your job.
What did you learn from North Road?
I learned what it was like to work with real clients. This allowed for me to begin learning what my job might be like after college, and showed me true responsibility. Hiring managers love hearing that you have worked with clients, it puts you one step ahead and makes you stand out on job applications.
How did North Road impact you?
NRC taught me time management and general PR knowledge. I definitely use skills I acquired in NRC in my job today!
Did you have any internships during your time at Marist?
I interned for Celebrity Stylist Sam Spector.
Were any of those due to your participation in North Road?
I was a fashion merchandising major, but having PR as a minor with NRC on my resume helped!
Where are you currently working?
I am an Account Associate at Haddad Brands in NYC!
Do you think that being in North Road helped prepare you for this job?
Definitely. I communicate with buyers daily just like I did with our clients in NRC. I felt very prepared for a job like this with NRC experience!
