My NRC Experience: Pitching
Alice Tirakian, Pitching Director / Account Executive
My name is Alice Tirakian, and I am on the Board of Directors as Director of Pitching for NRC. I am originally from Long Island, New York. I am a Communications major with a dual concentration in Public Relations and Advertising, a minor in Fashion Merchandising, and a pathway in French. I am so lucky to serve on the board and lead a team of such talented, hardworking, focused, and passionate women as we, together, fulfill the NRC motto: “Doing, Helping, and Learning.”
When I first was researching colleges during the application process, Marist immediately stood out to me for a multitude of reasons: the excellent professors and communications curriculum, opportunities to engage with the alumni network, the highly developed chapter of PRSSA, but most of all, the emphasis made on taking advantage of the real-world professional experiences provided through North Road Communications.
North Road has been the most fulfilling and informative experience I’ve had and the highlight of my college career thus far. I applied to NRC in the Spring semester of my freshman year for the pitching team. One of my proudest moments to this day was finding out I was accepted into the firm.
The incredible non-profit work that every student in the firm does was incredibly impressive to me, and I wanted nothing more than to be involved in any way I could. I have always been a very eager-to-learn student looking for the most out of my NRC experience; I was so pleased to be surrounded by students with this exact mindset.
A goal for the team this semester was to develop closer relationships with local journalists. Along with writing press releases, pitches, media alerts, and NRC promotional work, we conducted a research project for the team to become familiar with different journalists in the Hudson Valley area and beyond.
NRC has given me academic direction, motivation to get as involved as possible in the firm, guidance in my personal career goals, and a comfortable place to learn alongside my hardworking peers. I cannot wait to continue working in the firm and maximize media placements for our clientele. I have North Road to thank for the opportunities to give back to my community.
