My NRC Experience: Unshattered
Trevor McCormick, Account Representative
I’m Trevor McCormick, and I’m a junior at Marist studying Communication with a Concentration in Advertising. I decided to initially apply to NRC because I’d experienced some clubs on campus and was a bit underwhelmed with what some offered in the sense of gaining career experience. NRC’s focus on real clients was a dream come true for me because it’s such a unique and valuable experience that can set me apart from others. Working within a small client-based team under the leadership of an Account Executive and under the general leadership of firm directors emulates a job-like structure that is so different from any other organization I’ve been a part of at Marist.
I joined the Unshattered team as an Account Representative, and so far, we’ve been meeting with our client to understand goals and outline what they want from us. Unshattered is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end the addiction relapse cycle by employing women in recovery to make handbags and accessories out of upcycled material. I was drawn to join the Unshattered team firstly because of my family’s history of addiction and relapse, which is an extremely important topic to me. Above all, knowing that recovery is a lifelong process and seeing that Unshattered is not simply offering a short-term solution for its employees, but a long-term healthy one that involves consistency and a loving community made me very happy.
Being able to serve a client like Unshattered is invaluable to my learning experience here at Marist, and has opened my eyes to a whole new world within IMC. It’s something I’d definitely like to explore potentially in my future career. I’m excited about what the future holds for me in NRC, and know it’ll prepare me for whatever lies ahead.
